Bottle Baby

Luke loves to nurse...and by that, I mean he won't take a bottle, even when it's filled with breast milk. I've tried many bottles and even one sippy cup, but he ALWAYS protests. That means I don't get much freedom.
Well, last week I received a FREE bottle from Playtex in the mail. Today I added some expressed milk and he liked it. He really liked it. I liked it, too, and did I mention it was FREE!?!?

Celebrating Sam!
Because Sam had such a great 1st week of school, I decided to have a little celebration, which included:

A new Ben 10 DVD. He absolutely loves Ben 10, but since we don't do TV, he can only watch it at my parents' home or on the internet. This movie features "real people", so he was especially excited!

And lunch at a cool restaurant called Elevation ChopHouse. It's at a small airport near our house and has amazing views of the planes and helicopters from every table. The food was great and we couldn't believe how many departures and arrivals we saw in just one hour.

First Day of Pre-K

I wouldn't say that Sam was super excited about heading to school this morning, but he did give me a few beautiful smiles PLUS he did great in the car-line. He hopped right out and told me he loved me. Awwww!!
I, on the other hand, cried as I drove away.

Getting ready for school!

Sam was given a little homework at his meet & greet last week. He had to draw a picture of himself during summer vacation. We didn't officially go on vacation yet because we are heading up north in September, so he decided to draw himself at the pool.
It amazes me that he will sit still long enough to do something like this. He just loves anything "artsy"! (And, I love that, of course!)

A little theatre...
Sam received a puppet theatre and a bunch of puppets from Santa, which he asked for, then never played with it until last weekend. Since then, he's had several "performances". The latest was The Shark Who Stole Christmas, which included a cat, whale, snowman, princess, several fish, Curious George, a turtle and (of course) a shark. It was great!

Kickin' Kid
Luke loves kicking his chunky-monkey legs, and since he can already give me bruises I try to make sure that he gets in one good workout everyday. Of course, he is at the age to get easily distracted...especially by the furry "toys" we have in our home!

German wine!

When Neil went to Germany (in May), he brought home a couple bottles of wine. One was a Silvaner, which neither of us were familiar with. I really loved the bottle and wanted to keep it for a "special occasion".
It's a white wine, though, and he isn't into anything that's not named Merlot. Therefore, I just cracked it open. It's good. Even drier than Reisling. Perfect for summer.
I guess the bottle shape is common for this varietal. (I'm keeping it when it's empty!)

Post Office Tour

We went on a tour of our local post office to see how all the mail gets sorted and delivered each day. It was amazing how many people are working behind-the-scenes, and I don't think I've ever been in a place with such a strict schedule. We even saw a package that was ready to be delivered to our pediatrician, who also lives in our neighborhood.
It was very interesting. Even Luke enjoyed it, giving our Post Master a huge smile!

Yum...candy...

Sam and I joined my moms' group at Sweet Choc-a-lot, which is a local candy store.
All of the kids assembled chocolate pizzas to take home. While they worked, we watched Willy Wonka and snacked on chocolate fondue with strawberries, cookies, pretzels, bananas and marshmallows. It was a really fun (and delicious) event!

Scary Saturday Storm

Yesterday was really hot so we spent the early part of the day at the pool. We had a slight chance for some afternoon rain, which we were hoping for, but instead we got a downpour, hail and 50 mph winds.
(So much for drying our towels!)
I had just told Neil how pretty or backyard was this year. Now it is covered in debris. We are thankful, though, our power was only out for two hours and our HUGE trees are still standing! A lot of the area was not so lucky.

Throw it into the fire!

Sam and I went to Just Fired to paint a piece of pottery with my moms' group. My friend Sherry was there with her boys, which Sam loved! (That's her son and Sam's buddy, Jackson, in the second pic.)
We chose to paint a tile. He wanted to "paint the whole thing green", then he asked me to paint a dragonfly, since we have seen so many this summer. (They let you get surprisingly close!) When we were finished, Sam said, "Are they going to throw it into the fire now?"
I think it turned out great, and we may use it for a coaster!!
