Fun Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

As you might know, Luke is my little Artiste.  He draws and colors every single day.
On Wednesday, he came running into the office to show me his latest creation, all-the-while saying "dog" and "frog".
He was so excited!

So.  Do you see the "dog" and "frog"?  If not, look at this...

The dog (Dachshund?) is facing down.  The frog is facing up.

Summer is pretty much over for us.  (The free time.  Not the heat!)  Sam goes back to school in less than a week and we're all eager to meet his new teacher.  He did so well in Kindergarten, so I sure am hoping that he's given a similar teacher.  (Thank you in advance, Jesus!)

We've bought most of our supplies and spent the week doing some last-minute fun things...bowling, swimming, playing at Chuck E Cheese.  I feel like we're all ready for a bit of change, and I look forward to spending more one-on-one time with Luke, again.  Still.  I know I'll tear up as the bus pulls away from our home on the 5th.

A while back, I mentioned recycling/refinishing/re-purposing some furniture.  I've finished 3 pieces so far, but this is my absolute favorite...I love the way it turned out in the distressed-black finish, plus it was FREE!  I use it in our office b/c the shallow drawers are perfect for stamps, ribbons, scrapping supplies, etc.

ZANY BRAINY FACT:  On Monday the metro-Atlanta area saw over 900 lightning strikes in 15 minutes!

(If I was a brave gal, I'd have some really cool photos.  Oh, well.  Not.  Brave.)

This week at iheartfaces.com, the theme is purple.  Not an easy color for a mom of two boys.
Luckily, we used to have a big purple pillow in the playroom and Sam once fell asleep on it.
Of course, I grabbed my camera.  I love sleeping-tot-shots!

Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Well.  I did it.  I opened my etsy store.  It takes a bit of time adding items, so I've only just begun.
Still....it's already exciting!

Here are a few of my items...

I had a wonderful girls night out with an old friend/roommate this week.  We really don't live that far from each other, but with kids, Atlanta traffic, etc., we seldom get together these days.  It was great seeing her and we had a wonderful meal at
The Cheesecake Factory.

Sam went through VBS-withdrawal this week.  Every morning he asked, "What are we doing that's fun today?"  It was especially tough on the days when cleaning was the most exciting thing on our list.

He's also proudly showing off his art from last week.

The teachers took the sweetest pics of the kids in cowboy gear.  Love it!

Here's another easy recipe that I'm in love with...

BLT Wraps

8 - 10 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
2 cups lettuce, bit-size
2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1 large tomato, chopped
1/3 cup ranch dressing
6 flour tortillas, 8-inch size

Now, just mix the first 5 ingredients together and distribute amongst the tortillas.

Spread out the mixture and roll them up!  Yum!!

Hope you are enjoying the last few weeks of July!  It's bittersweet here b/c school starts August 5th.

My littlest Artiste

I'm linking back to this photo for ThePunkRockMom's "story" photo challenge
Luke LOVES pretty much anything creative...and he loves to look good doing it,
too!  This was him "driting" (drawing + writing) one day back in July.  (He was
very tan, huh?  We live in GA.)

This week, the theme at iheartfaces.com is "over my head".  The first thing that popped into my mind was trees, so I went with the brilliantly-green trees of Florida....and sweet Sam....

Friday Fragments

Luke had his first dentist appointment this week and it went great!  (We have a wonderful pediatric dentist.)  He was so calm during the cleaning and exam, but there was one glitch...he didn't want to go home!  The receptionist said that it was the 1st time they ever had a patient cry upon leaving.

So.  Did you know that GA holds The Summer Redneck Games every year?  Come on.  You know you're jealous.  And, if you're not, you should be!  Where else can you "bob" for pigs feet, sit in the General Lee, light a beer-can-torch or toss a toilet seat...all while wearing your bikini...under the rebel flag???

(Photos from ajc.com.)

In all fairness, this event was started as a fundraiser and has raised a ton of money over the years.

Speaking of raising money...

Sam and I recently, donated some photos to an auction in Atlanta.  All 3 sold and helped out a local pet rescue.  Here are the 2 pieces I donated...

I'm still considering the Etsy shop!

Sam had VBS all this week. (Vacation Bible School)  He always loves it and I can see why, with the bouncies, water gun fights, silly songs and yummy snacks!  He's probably gonna be very bored next week.

We put our house on the market.  (Prayers are much appreciated!)  We don't need to move, that's for sure, but we'd really like to and we've seen a couple homes lately that are soooo "us".

Moving is such a pain, tho, that I already dread it a bit.

Have you heard of 33 Shades of Green?  It's my current-favorite-blog!  Alissa has the best projects/ideas around, and most of them are pretty darn simple, like her "decorative letters".  I love them so!  And, here's my version on the office wall, beneath some favorite photos...

They were as easy as her tutorial makes them out, and they only cost me $2.71 thanks to Hobby Lobby!

Cucumbers, cats and collapsing...

Sam LOVES most raw veggies.  It's such a blessing, especially since I do not!  At the grocery store, he often asks for bell peppers, green beans and cucumbers.  Yep.  He loves 'em...

He also loves our fur babies and Max gives the love back...

Luke, on the other hand, LOVES Lego more than just about anything.  It's not unusual for him to sit and build 3 or 4 hours a day.  Sometimes, it just wears him out...

Sam's Summer Shots

Sam's been busy with his camera, again.  Enjoy his latest captures...

And, speaking of Sam's photos, remember when he won 1st place for this oleander shot?

Well, he donated that photo to an auction in Atlanta and made a lot of money for a local pet rescue!
