Hey there, y'all!
We hope you enjoy your stay in Kennesaw, GA, this fine day. There's lots to see,
like
Kennesaw Mountain (and its civil war "souvenirs"),
the locomotive museum and
McCollum Airport...plus this sweet city is one of the tops to call home, according to
Family Circle magazine!
We certainly love all-things-Kennesaw, especially the downtown area, which recently
saw a HUGE revision in the form of a tunnel under the tacks. There are so many downtown
events along the train tracks that it was necessary to add the tunnel...and it's awesome.
Complete with history about our city, as well as
The General, a train that was stolen from
Kennesaw in 1862.
A big city that feels small
More than 30,000 people call Kennesaw home. Churches are everywhere and there's always
at least one sporting event taking place. We can't forget about the crazy gun law, either. In the
early 80's Kennesaw passed a law requiring all heads of households to own a firearm and
ammo. (I said it was crazy.) There are some exceptions to the law.
Kennesaw has some amazing yearly festivals, as well. The Big Shanty festival in the Spring,
the Taste of Kennesaw in the Fall, Civil War reenactments and Santa's arrival in a sleigh
pulled by real reindeer each December, are some of our faves.
A prime location
Kennesaw is only about 20 miles north of Atlanta and in little over an hour, we can be in
Tennessee. In fact, we head up to Chattanooga regularly. (That drive takes you through
the North GA mountains, which is really lovely this time of year.) Also, we can be on the
GA coast in 3-4 hours.
The wildlife in Kennesaw is abundant, including turtles, beaver, deer, raccoon, hawks, coyote
and fox. On occasion, a bear will show up, too. I've said many times that it's awesome to
live in a city where you only have to drive a few miles to Target, but you'll probably need to
stop for deer to cross the road.
