Free(dom) Friday Fragments

Mommy's Idea

Can you believe it's July 2010???  Seriously.  I can't.

Sam started gymnastics this week and loved it, which I knew he would.  In fact, I've tried to get him on-board with gymnastics or martial arts for 2 years.  He's thin.  He's fast.  He's active.  Come on!

~~~~~~~~~~
I just found out that my elementary school is set to close.  Apparently, they are turning the current road into a highway, and we all know what that means.  I know it's Metro Atlanta.  It still sucks.  Yep...I said it.
~~~~~~~~~~

We have our first veggie from the Lettre garden....a TOMATO!!

~~~~~~~~~~
July 4th is always fun in our neighborhood.  We have an awesome HOA that uses most of the budget for the 4th celebration...that means CRAZY fireworks.  Seriously.  The most amazing show in Metro Atlanta...and that's saying a lot.  Plus, all we have to do is go out on our driveway, or my parent's driveway at 9PM.  If we wanted, tho, we could go down to the Town Green for music, kids' fun and more.  It really is awesome.
~~~~~~~~~~

I have a few recipes for this year's 4th that are always popular, so I figured I would share one.
And, this one is SO easy...

Italian Skewers

        • Cherry Tomatoes
        • Cheese tortellini (I buy frozen)
        • Whole black olives, drained
        • Italian dressing
        • Party picks or skewers

Cook the tortellini as directed and drain.  Then thread one olive, one tortellini and one tomato on pick/skewer, repeating if necessary.  Refrigerate the platter when complete.  Before serving drizzle the platter with Italian dressing.

(I've also rolled up pepperoni or prosciutto and threaded it between the other parts, but not this time.)

If you try it, let me know what you think!

~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, let's remember to thank those who fought for our freedom
and those who still fight.
And, praise God for both!
I'm absolutely trying your skewer recipe this weekend, and I'm envious of your tomato. I kill everything I try to grow :(
I am totally making those skewers this weekend! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
The only thing we've gotten so far out of our garden is a few jalapenos. The peppers just aren't popping yet.
Have a great weekend!
That tomato is beautiful. For some reason, knowing a tomato came out of someone's back yard makes them even tastier.
Happy Fourth of July!
