Fragmented Friday #30

So we finally had some real snow. Well...not "real" in the way that many of you have had it this winter, but it was definitely "real" for Atlanta!

We ended up with about 3" and it was the perfect, packing type so the boys had a ball. (Literally.) Best of all, the temps on Saturday were in the 40's and the sun was shining brightly while they built snowmen and forts.

Thought this recipe sounded great, as we are BIG mac & cheese fans...

Smoky Mac 'n Cheese

Prep Time: 30 min
Total Time: 50 min
Makes: 8 servings

3cups uncooked elbow macaroni (12 oz)
1.5
cups whipping cream
1teaspoon Dijon mustard
1/2
teaspoon coarse (kosher or sea) salt
1/4teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)
8oz smoked Cheddar cheese, shredded (2 cups)
2cans (14.5 oz each) fire roasted diced tomatoes, well drained
1/4cup sliced green onions (4 medium)
1/3cup grated Parmesan cheese
1/3cup Progresso® plain bread crumbs
2teaspoons olive oil

Cook and drain macaroni as directed on box. Return to saucepan; cover to keep warm.

Meanwhile, heat oven to 375°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. In 2-quart saucepan, heat whipping cream, mustard, salt and red pepper to boiling. Reduce heat; stir in Cheddar cheese with wire whisk until smooth.

Pour sauce over macaroni. Stir in tomatoes and onions. Pour into baking dish.

In small bowl, mix Parmesan cheese and bread crumbs. Stir in oil. Sprinkle over top of macaroni mixture.

Bake uncovered 15 to 20 minutes or until edges are bubbly and top is golden brown.

It was a 4-day week for Sam, with President's Day on Monday.

Luke has pneumonia for the 2nd time in 6 months. I know. The consensus is that he has asthma. I always thought that was the case.

We are members at our local science museum, Tellus. Tonight is a member party and we are all excited to visit. They really do things well, so it's bound to be even more fun than usual!

Did you hear that they now know how King Tut died? Yep. They used good old DNA from the mummy. (So weird to me.) Apparently, they studied said DNA for 2 years and determined that he "... died from complications from a broken leg exacerbated by malaria..."

They say the DNA is like 3,000 years old. Amazing, huh!?! You'd sure think they could cure the common cold!

Can you believe we are nearing the end of February already???

Get out and enjoy your time because it flies!

My aunt lives in Alpharetta and her pictures were just gorgeous, and her kids had a blast too. I just wish it would have come a little further South. ;)

That Smoky Mac 'n Cheese sounds great! I'll have to try it at for our next get together!

Have a great weekend!

The kids were off from school here quite a few times, as we got several "FEET" of snow. I'm ready for summer.

I saw that news bit about King Tut. You are right. They can figure that out, and can't take care of the sniffles.

BTW.....your link to the pictures isn't working, at least from my end.

That mac & cheese recipe sounds really good. Love the smoked cheese idea.

The snow was so much fun. Our sad snowman started melting and fell over -- lost his head!

People are so cute when they get excited about snow! I get so much of it that I hate it!

I'm not writing personal posts and I'll be off the computer for the next few days since I need to work on my house, but I've been missing my visits over here so I wanted to stop by!!!

Adam is reading over my shoulder and just told me what was really interesting about the research on King Tut and his family - his mother was his father's sister and the two stillborn infants they found in the tomb were Tut's children. I do love science. And having a husband that stores stuff like that in his head.

Anyway, being able to sequence DNA is positively simple compared to finding a cure for a whole bunch of different viruses that mutate and adapt every time you take your eyes off the buggers.

Poor Luke! Is he too young to get a pneumonia shot? It doesn't stop all the strains but it might be worth looking into at the very least.

The science museum looks like a lot of fun, I hope you guys had a good time =D

Are you healing up alright and feeling okay?

Glad you are enjoying your snow. If you didn't get enough, come visit me- I have tons of the stuff.

I was just thinking about how time flies- every day, we are one step closer to Christmas :-)

The king tut thing is very interesting to me. New discoveries every day make me love science, even though it's not a skill of mine academically.

I'm south of you, in Alabama, and we got 1/4 of an inch. It was melted in 2 hours. Didn't keep them from canceling school though!

Wow, you had snow! I heard that it snowed in every state except HI that day. I hope spring comes soon!

Glad your boys got to play in the snow....wish we could have sent you some of ours! LOL

Interesting on the DNA on Tut.

I am ready for spring, for gardening and for playing in the dirt.

Hope you had a great time at the Science Museum.

I want to know how in the world they figured that out from DNA!

I didn't know that Atlanta gets snow sometimes. I'll bet the boys loved it! :)
